I volunteered to lead the environment design after the previous artist shifted focus.
Building on his foundational moodboards and initial sketches, I was able to develop our vision further for the first scene.

NOT MY WORK

At this point the environment was just a simple corridor.
I started by drawing a series of thumbnails, attempting to add some levelling to the area, to make it more dynamic.

Based on feedback, I created a layout, and a more polished version of one of the thumbnails.
Unfortunately, the director felt that my design was too rigid and stuck too close to his original layout.
He asked me to try approaching the task from a compositional perspective, rather than an architectural one.

So I created another series of thumbnails.
This time I tried to focus more on shape language and flow.
The directors were a lot happier with these thumbnails.

I polished their favourite version, and created a call sheet to give the 3D team a more concrete idea of the specific design elements.
This design moved onto modelling and rendering.

I then extrapolated some of the silhouettes into more concrete designs.
I was also asked to have a go at redesigning the main character for this project. We already had extensive mood boards so I started with silhouettes.

So I polished it off.
The Art Director really liked the third option.
